It has been under the rule of Romans and Moors before becoming a part of Spain. History fans will delight at the numerous ancient ruins and castles found throughout the island, where great care is taken to preserve the many historical landmarks.

Mallorca is also a well-rounded cultural center where art has a strong presence. The Palau March is a remarkable museum of contemporary art. Throughout the capital city of Palma de Mallorca, you can find sculptures by the famous Joan Miro, who spent much of his life on the island. The Mallorca Museum, close to the famous Cathedral in Palma, boasts a wide range of artwork from every period in history as well as ancient artifacts. Nightlife

There is no shortage of nightlife in Mallorca. A traditional night out begins at a pub around midnight and then carries over into one of the many discos, where the partying extends into the following morning. The towns with a strong British presence such as Magaluf have particularly wild nightlife. Those seeking a more tame night out can enjoy one of the many world-famous restaurants on the island followed by one of the numerous concerts that go on year-round for lovers of all types of music.

Travel to Mallorca is fairly easy, although it does require an extra step due to its island location. Direct flights to Palma de Mallorca are frequent from the bigger cities in London and Germany, where most of Mallora's tourists come from. Travelers coming to Mallorca from other destinations will usually need to change planes in Madrid or Barcelona, and from there the flight is about an hour, with incredible views of the mountains meeting the sea as the flight comes to a close.
