Costa da le Luz (meaning Coast of Light) is a region lying in the south-western part of Spain. The region begins from the Portugese border, and stretches till Tarifa in the South. The western part of Costa da le Luz is marked by the Guadalquivir river, Huelva and Ayamonte, while small but popular towns like Zahara de los Atunes and Barbate are located in the southern part of Costa da le Luz. Central parts of the region include hot spots like Chipiona, El Puerto de Santa María and Cádiz.

History

The native inhabitants of Costa da le Luz were Phoenicians, Greeks, and Iberians, who contributed to the richness of its history. Afterwards, the Carthaginians captured this area, who used Cádiz as the base of Hannibal in order to win over southern Iberia. Further, the Romans took hold of the Costa da le Luz area, only to lose it to the Visigoths. In the 8th Century Moors conquered the region, while in the year 1262 Alphonso X of Castille finally defeated the Moors from Cádiz to get hold of the region.

 

Art & Museums

Jerez is a very prominent venue of art and culture in Costa da le Luz, famous for its "Art of Flamenco" that you can catch in an exhibition. The city offers you to watch a Zoo with Botanic Garden and a famous Fortress named Alcázar. You will also enjoy the visit to the Clock Museum, the Wine Museum, the Spanish Guitar Museum and an Archeological Museum too. Apart from these, a "Cámara Oscura" (Panaromic Camera) gives you the 360° view of the city.

 

Nightlife

Costa da le Luz offers a plenty of options when Nightlife is concerned. You can visit the local theaters and restaurants. Tapas bars coupled with Flamenco "Tablaos" are peculiar attractions of the region. A major festival called Feria is held in May/June when the residents get colorfully dressed and parade around in a ground. Also, to spice up your nightlife further, Costa da le Luz has got some other spots such as Tabancos and Bodeguitas, Bingo Halls, and some Striptease joints as well.

Getting to Costa da le Luz is quite convenient, as it is well connected with prominent cities of the world. You can reach Costa da le Luz through the Faro airport in the south, Seville airport, or directly through Jerrez airport, which is the most preferred route.
