Luxembourg

History

The nation of Luxembourg became an independent state in 963 A.D. after having been part of the empire of Charlemagne. But it was much sought after by the larger nations of Europe for its land and resources. For almost 1000 years, the monarchy of Luxembourg would be controlled by other countries including Spain, France and Austria. In 1944, Luxembourg would be liberated from German occupation and given back its independence. Today the country is ruled by Grand Duke Henri who began his reign in 2000 A.D. after replacing his father Jean, ruler of the Kingdom for over 26 years.
