Rome is the largest and most populated city in Italy, as well as the nation’s capital. The history of Rome extends over a period of two and a half thousand years. Rome is known as the eternal city because it was founded in the very early days of Western Civilization. The Roman Empire is one of the most well known empires worldwide, with its class system and famous citizens such as Julius Caesar and Cleopatra. Rome also has a long history of Christianity, as it is the present day location of the Roman Catholic Church. Rome is also known for the Renaissance Period with extravagant churches, bridges, and other buildings.

 

Art & Museums

One of Rome’s most famous landmarks is the Colosseum from the Roman Empire and there are many other important monuments such as the Roman Forum and the Pantheon. Rome has an abundance of museums and art galleries, including the Barracco Museum, Borghese Museum and Gallery, Capitoline Museums, and the Museum of Roman Civilization. Rome is also an important music center with an opera house, ballets, and many other musical destinations.

 

Nightlife

The nightlife in Rome is very laid back with enjoying the beautiful lit up fountains and architecture and relaxing at a restaurant, bar, or café drinking wine or coffee. In the summers, the streets of Rome resemble an outdoor festival with concerts, markets, shops, and other entertainment. There are a few nightclubs, in the Testaccio, Piramide metro station, and Via Ostiense areas. Near the Pantheon and in Trastevere are also very popular nightlife scenes.

 

How to get there

Rome is a considered the center of radial network of roads and essentially all roads in Italy lead to Rome, due to the roads continuing to follow the lines of ancient roman roads. The Termini is Rome’s main train station and one of the biggest train stations in Europe, there is also the Tiburtina station. Rome also has three airports: The main airport is The intercontinental Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport, the older one is the Ciampino Airport and it is a military and civilian airport, and the Aeroporto dell'Urbe, which is small with not a lot of traffic.
