History

However, the area first became known as a city during the Roman Empire, which founded a city where Porec now exists. The city was then home to a settlement of early Christians, whose influence can still be seen today in the well preserved Euphrasian Basilica, which dates back to the sixth century. Over the coming centuries, Porec saw its share of leaders, including a long stint by the Venetians, which left a notable impact over the entire region before it was dominated primarily by the Slavs.

 

Art & Museums

The most famous site is definitely the Euphrasian Basilica, which is considered to be a World Heritage Site. Within the Basilica, guests will be able to see a number of ancient church artifacts, including some original tile floors and a baptistery. Besides the Basilica, Porec has several other historical structures that are worth seeing. Two main streets in town have been kept in their ancient forms, giving the town a distinctive flair. There is a museum located in Sincic, a Baroque palace that was built in the eighteenth century and now houses a great number of artifacts and pieces of art.

 

Nightlife

With its development for tourism, Porec is especially well known for its beach parties that can stretch into all hours of the night. One popular beach is the main city beach. Throughout the town and along the coastline, party goers can find a range of bars and discos to suit any style. Many hotels also have popular bars and beach access that are great for guests set on partying.

 

How to get there

Arriving in Porec is best accomplished through other, larger cities in Croatia. From those cities, the main method of transportation to Porec is by road, as there is no train station or airport in Porec. Though Porec does have coastal access, it is used primarily by local fishermen and for tourist excursions.
