Zagreb is a city where history and modern society coexist. History

Zagreb first made its mark in history as part of the Roman Empire. The city housed an early cathedral, from which a large section of the city grew up around. Nearby, there was a military fort, which also brought settlers and development. Eventually these two areas grew and mixed, forming what is known today as Zagreb. Zagreb secured its importance in the seventeenth century when it was chosen as the seat of government by the reigning king. It has remained an important governmental and cultural center in Croatia and is the largest city in that country today.

Art & Museums

As such a large city, Zagreb is home to a great museums, many of which are not only known throughout Croatia, but around the rest of Europe as well. The selection of museums ranges from a collection of traditional Croatian art to an archeological museum with ancient artifacts. One of the more commonly visited museums is the Mimara, which is home to an impressive collection of artwork. Additionally, Zagreb is the home to the National Theater in Croatia along with a state of the art concert hall. On top of all this modern development, Zagreb has a variety of historical structures, many of which date back to Roman times, and are often a favorite among visitors.

Nightlife

There are several good areas for quality clubbing experience in Zagreb. Up town or downtown, there are plenty of laid back clubs that often feature live music. Interestingly, the peak nightlife season is during the non-summer months since most of the population prefers to migrate to the beach to party come summertime.

How to get there

Many travelers coming from any distance utilize the airport in Zagreb, which receives a good deal of international traffic. There are a number of bus and train lines that go in and out of Zagreb as well, which is also useful within the city limit's. It is also easy to reach Zagreb via car, as the city is on several major highways in Croatia.
